Ben Merriman

Department of Sociology

Ben Merriman is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology. Ben's research examines the history and current state of spatial thinking and methods in urban research. This has included research on theories of space in the Chicago School, the effects of overlapping scales of political regulation in the United States, and the processual nature of geographic scale. Other research examines the (predominantly urban) social structure of literary publishing in the United States. Before coming to the University of Chicago, Ben received a B.A. in sociology from James Madison University.
