About the Network
The UChicago Urban Network is an intellectual hub for faculty, students, policymakers, and others interested in the university's urban research.
Through its portfolio of programs, co-sponsorship of events, and network of scholars, the Urban Network fosters innovation, cultivates scholarship, builds cross-disciplinary connections, and shines a spotlight on the urban research happening at UChicago.
What We Do
- Cultivate Emerging Scholarship through our Urban Network Fellows. Each spring, both doctoral and undergraduate students apply to become Urban Network Fellows. Our graduate fellows receive financial support for the presentation of their interdisciplinary urban research at a conference of their choosing. Undergraduate Urban Network fellows receive financial support for summer research products leading to an undergraduate thesis.
- Fostering new and innovative research through our Urban Forums conferences, which focus around a different theme each year and are free and open to the public. Our forums draw scholars and attendees from around the world to build collaborations that address the most pressing urban questions.
- Coordinate urban information sharing through our Research Affiliate Program, which draws over 70 scholars from four divisions and five professional schools at the University of Chicago. In our first three years, the Urban Network collaborated with over 30 organizations around the country and has invited nearly 200 people from 46 universities to present at various Urban Network events.
