Grants & Co-Sponsorships

The Urban Network provides financial and logistical support to events at the University of Chicago that address interdisciplinary urban issues.

The Urban Network promotes interdisciplinary urban research, conversation, and public programming at the University of Chicago.  To do this, we offer grants up to the university's faculty, students, departments, and centers to support interdisciplinary urban research and programming.

Currently, we have three separate grant programs: Urban Forum Grants, Urban Network Discretionary Grants, and Urban Network Travel Grants.  Each fall, we issue an RFP for our Urban Forum Grants.  Applicaitons for this funding are reviewed by our Faculty Advisory Board.  Discretionary Grants and Travel Grants are awarded on a rolling basis.

Urban Forum Grants

Urban Forum grants are larger, up to $25,000, and support faculty-led, research oriented public programs that advance urban scholarship.

Discretionary Grants

Discretionary Grants are smaller, under $5000, and support faculty as well as student-led initiatives that often, but not always, result in a public-facing program or event.

For both of these grants, we are particularly excited to support programming that engages outside practitioners and organizations in academic dialog around urban issues.
